Welcome to Drs. Jasper Smits and Mark Powers, who will be joining the IMHR in Fall of 2013 as our newest faculty members!

Dr. Jasper Smits will join the IMHR as a Professor of Psychology. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin and completed a fellowship at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Smits has published over 100 articles, book chapters, and books. Applying a translational research method, his work focuses on the development and evaluation of interventions for anxiety disorders (e.g., social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder) and related problems (e.g., smoking, overeating, physical inactivity) and is currently funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse. He is a member of the Scientific Council for the Anxiety and Depression Association of America and an Associate Editor for the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology and Cognitive Therapy and Research.
Dr. Mark Powers will join the IMHR as a Research Associate Professor of Psychology. While perusing his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, he also completed a pre-doctoral fellowship at Boston University and Harvard University and a clinical internship at the University of Washington. He recently received a prestigious career development award from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to develop a state-of-the-art treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and smoking dependence. Dr. Powers has over 60 publications including book chapters and journal articles.
