Rafael Hernandez
Prof. Rafael M. Hernández Rodríguez is one of Cuba’s most distinguished senior political science scholars of U.S.-Cuban relations. He is a Senior Researcher Fellow at the Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de la Cultura Cubana “Juan Marianello” in Havana. Professor Hernández has a BA in French literature and history of philosophy from the University of Havana (1973); an MA in political science from El Colegio de México (1977); and is in the PhD program in Latin American Studies at UNAM. He has been a Professor and Researcher at the University of Havana and the High Institute of International Relations. Much of his career developed at Cuba’s Centro de Estudios sobre América, where he headed the Department for U.S. Studies from 1979–1996 and served as the founder and chief editor of the journal Cuadernos de Nuestra América (1983–1993). In 1995, he founded Temas, a social science magazine that soon became and remains the most intellectually interesting and freest venue for social science publication on contemporary Cuba in Cuba.
