Course Description
The architecture, sculpture and manuscript painting of ancient central Mexico, focusing on material from the 14th century through to the early Colonial period. Emphasis on cultural and historical interpretations of Aztec religious and political art, as well as the use of ancient symbols and images for political messages in modern Mexico and the US. Prerequisite: For art history majors, Art History 302; For visual art studies majors, Art History 302 and 303; for others, at least one of the following is advisable but not required: Art History 301, 302, 303.
