Course Description
The primary aim of this course is to analyze in a broad sense the connections between Spanish American cinema and literature, through extensive readings and in-class movie exhibitions. Particular emphasis will be given to "Martin Fierro" (poem by Jose Hernandez, film by Leopoldo Torre Nilsson), "La sombra del caudillo" (novel by Martin Luis Guzman, film by Julio Bracho), "Don Segundo Sombra" (novel by Ricardo Guiraldes, film by Manuel Antin), "Boquitas pintadas" (novel by Manuel Puig, film by Leopoldo Torre Nilsson), "Diario de la guerra del cerdo" (novel by Adolfo Bioy Casares, film by Leopoldo Torre Nilsson), "El apando" (novel by Jose Revueltas, film by Felipe Cazals), "Un lugar sin limites" (novel by Jose Donoso, film by Arturo Ripstein), "De eso no se habla" (short story by Julio Llinas, film by Maria Luisa Bemberg), "La Virgen de los sicarios" (novel and film by Fernando Vallejo).
Grading Policy
All students are expected too prepare monthly assignments for class (50%) and submit a final report (50%).
