LAS 327 • 6-ART AND ARCHAEOL OF ANC PERU

Course Description

This course will provide detailed and general anthropological information concerning the human occupation of Ancient Peru from the Paleoindian to the pre-Inca periods. Amongst the numerous social formations covered by this course a series of complex societies and their material production will be presented such as: Chavin, Moche, Chimu, Paracas and Nasca. In some cases, emphasis will be given not only to the material culture itself, but to broader aspects involving the Ancestor Cult, Ritual Ecology, Fertility and Cosmology.

Grading Policy

Option 1: Three exams, each counting for about 33% of the final grade. Option 2: Three exams, each counting for 25% of the final grade, and an essay paper, 10 pages long, counting for 25%.
