Course Description
Brazil, Mexico, and Chile have all substantially restructured following a neo-liberal model. Yet sustainable development, hemispheric integration, increased productive potential, and improved social cohesion--four of the five current ECLAC points of emphasis--remain a distant goal. Even the policy trajectory that lies ahead is still somewhat dimly perceived. We shall examine these cases in the changing context of inter-American relations to identify the main contemporary policy options and trade-offs for each and explore the significant inter-country differences.
