Lecture: "Reading Chican@ Like a Queer"
Thu, September 30, 2010 • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM • Texas Governors' Room, UNB 3.116
Sandra K. Soto, University of Arizona
Chicana/o literary and cultural texts have long been approached through two overlapping resuppositions: they offer instructive reflections of the material social processes that racialize and oppress peoples of Mexican descent living in the U.S.; they help constitute and mobilize an oppositional chicana/o public for politically contesting racism in the U.S. What happens when these burdens of transparent reflection and of an identity politics squarely focused on race are liefted from the texts and from the readers/viewers?
