Lecture: "Um Defeito de Cor/A Color Defect"

Brazilian writer Ana Maria Gonçalves made a huge impact with her second novel, Um Defeito de Cor, which reached back into history and the African slave trade to Brazil and has been compared to that of Alex Haley's Roots in the U.S. The novel was awarded the 2007 Casa de Las Americas, Cuba.
Ms. Gonçalves has served as writer-in-residence at Tulane University (2007), Stanford University (2008), and Middlebury College (2009). She now resides in New Orleans, Louisiana.
