Using original documents, many found in the Benson Latin American Collection, Dr. Ruíz Razura portrays the Mexican revolutionary leader Vicente Guerrero as a noble and honorable man, deeply committed to his family and country. She also discusses the many historical depictions of Guerrero that, over time, reflect attempts to "whiten" his image and hence negate his black and indigenous origins.
