Lecture: "Maya Women's Weaving Traditions in Chiapas, Mexico"

Celia Sántiz Ruiz and Rosalinda Sántiz will speak about their experiences as weavers and their lives as Tzotzil-Maya women in Chiapas, Mexico. Both women are members of the Jolom Mayaetik artisan cooperative and will be visiting Texas as part of Austin Tan Cerca de la Frontera’s “Women and Fair Trade Festival.” During their talk, Celia and Rosalinda will explore the meaning of the symbols they create in their weavings as related to the history and culture of the Tzotzil people.
