Conferece: "Trauma and History"

This conference will culminate a year-long series of workshops at the Institute for Historical Studies in which a diverse group of scholars will focus on historical explorations of civic trauma, including the cumulative toll and intergenerational nature of trauma; trauma as a catalyst for geographic displacement, social reform, and political mobilization; the fetishization and commercialization of trauma; and the methodological challenges of integrating trauma into historical analysis. The conference will be organized thematically around discrete topics such as Occupation, Displacement and Exile; Natural and Man-Made Disasters; Trauma and Religion; and Genocide, Revolution, and Political Violence.
