Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships

1. Academic year (fall and spring semesters) - for Portuguese, Quechua, or other arranged Amerindian language study.

Awards will not be made to native speakers of the language nor to those who possess fluency equivalent to educated native speakers in the language for which the award is sought.

Eligibility:

  • citizen/permanent resident
  • shows potential for superior academic achievement as indicated by a long-term interest in Latin America
  • a graduate student in good standing at UT-Austin, or has been accepted for regular admission to the Graduate School at UT-Austin
  • for non-traditional language study, contact Megan Crowhurst, non-traditional language adviser

Stipend:
$15,000 academic year (fall and spring semesters) plus UT tuition and fees.
$2,500 summer (one summer session) plus UT tuition and fees.
