Argentine Studies Program
About the Argentine Studies Program...
The four main goals of the Argentine Studies Program are:
1. To facilitate exchange of faculty and students between Argentina and UT-Austin
2. To provide a mechanism to improve research on Argentina
3. To enhance Argentina's visibility in the United States
4. To strengthen the binational community that already exists between Argentina and the United States.
Initiatives of the ASP currently being implemented include:
1. Distinguished Lecture Series: Throughout the year, the ASP will host lectures by distinguished academics, intellectuals, and public figures who will speak on Argentine topics. The first speaker in the series was former President Carlos Menem, who visited the campus on March 8, 2000.
2. Symposia and Professional Meetings on Argentine Topics: Each year the ASP will host several academic meetings on topics related to Argentina. The first of these was held in April 2001: Mercosul/Mercosur: The Market and Beyond.In April 2002, the ASP hosted a conference on The Argentine Crisis: Past, Present and Future, with special guest speaker Paul Krugman of Princeton University.. LLILAS hosts Videos of the proceedings from this conference. The most recent conference was Argentina and Brazil: The Future of Integration in March 2004.
3. Electronic Publications. Working papers, conference proceedings, and newsletters resulting from ASP activities will be published on this Website. See the Conference Papers section for papers pertaining to conferences thus far.
