CLASPO Projects:

Self-sustaining Community Development in a Comparative Perspective
This Ford-funded research project will analyze social policy and community development in four Latin American countries: Peru, Argentina, Chile and Colombia, comparing programs in low-income localities in metropolitan areas to those in poor provincial regions that have an important indigenous population. The research will analyze: a) the local context in which specific projects are implemented; b) the characteristics of the government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved in such implementation; and c) the relationships developed between all of the relevant actors.

To carry out this research, we hope to promote cooperation between established researchers/practitioners and promising younger researchers particularly from disadvantaged areas and/or backgrounds. These young professionals will be trained in social policy analysis with the support of UT-Austin's academic resources. CLASPO will work closely with the research and training programs on Brazil and the United States located in the Population Research Center and in the LBJ School of Public Affairs and the Urban Issues Program of the university
