Arturo Arias Receives Guatemala’s Top Literary Award

LLILAS congratulates Arturo Arias, Professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, as recipient of the Miguel Ángel Asturias National Prize in Literature 2008, Guatemala’s most prestigious literary award. Dedicated to the memory of the former Guatemalan writer, statesman, and Nobel winner, the one-time only award recognizes a writer's body of work.


Mexican Center to Host Symposium on Olmec

In fall 2008, the Mexican Center of LLILAS will host a symposium on Olmec art and archaeology. Olmec: The Origins of Ancient Mexican Civilization will take place on November 20–21, 2008, and will explore the most recent scholarship by senior specialists in the field.
