Brazilian Scholar to Be Spring 2010 Lozano Long Visiting Professor

Beatriz Ilari, Associate Professor of Music at the Universidade Federal do Paraná in Curitiba, Brazil, will be teaching at the University of Texas during the spring 2010 semester as the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long Annual Visiting Professor.
Professor Ilari received her Ph.D. in music education from McGill University in Montreal, an M.A. from Montclair State University in New Jersey, and a B.A. from the Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil. She is an active scholar in the field of music cognition, with extensive work on the musical development of children and adolescents in Brazil and elsewhere. Her recent work takes a cultural approach to the analysis of Latin American music informed by theories from anthropology, music education, and ethnomusicology. Professor Ilari will teach the course Music Learning, Culture, and Identity: Brazil and Beyond.
