Benson Latin American Collection Awarded Medalla 1810

UT's Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection will be presented the Medalla 1810 from the mayor of Mexico City on July 19, an award given for contributions to the study and development of Mexican history and culture.

The award was created ini 2008 in honor of the bicentennial of Mexico's independence and the centennial of the Mexican Revolution. The Benson was cited as "honorably representing Mexico's history through its hihly recognized achievements in the field of academic and research development," by the History Awards Committee from the Mexican Academy of History, El Colegio de México, and the Institute of Historical Research at UNAM.
