Dr. Peter Ward Receives Outstanding Graduate Adviser Award
Posted: March 8, 2011
Dr. Peter Ward, Professor in the LBJ School of Public Affairs and the Department of Sociology, has been named the Outstanding Graduate Adviser by the Graduate School at The University of Texas at Austin, an award that acknowledges, among other contributions, his role in revitalizing the doctoral program at the LBJ School.
Dr. Ward, who has been director of the Mexican Center at LLILAS and editor of the Latin American Research Review, is noted for creating a strong sense of community among doctoral students and championing resources and opportunities for them. "Students need faculty members who stand with them and help them navigate their course work, independent research and the job market. The graduate adviser plays the most crucial role, and Peter Ward plays it extraordinarily well," said Robert Hutchings, dean of the LBJ School of Public Affairs.
His award will be presented by Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies Victoria Rodríguez at a May 18 banquet cosponsored by the University Co-op.
