Latin American Studies major Lauren Boneta has been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest academic honor society for the liberal arts and sciences in the country. Lauren is a senior at the University of Texas, where she is double majoring in Latin American Studies and Geography and the Environment.
During her time at UT Austin, Lauren has held various leadership roles in her sorority, Kappa Delta, and is also a member of Orange Jackets, the honorary women's service organization. She studied abroad in Chile for a semester where she helped with earthquake relief efforts in a small community outside Santiago. It was in Chile that Lauren developed a passion for environmental policy, particularly in the context of development. She has spent the past semester in Washington, DC, with the Archer Program, interning at the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Office of External Affairs and Environmental Education, Office of Public Engagement. Lauren plans on graduating in May 2012 and hopes to gain valuable work experience before going on to receive her master's degree in public health.
