LLILAS Welcomes Three Visiting Professors

LLILAS welcomes its Fall 2013 visiting professors: Pablo de Larrañaga and Magdalena Villarreal, Edward Larocque Tinker Visiting Professors; and Guadalupe Gonzalez, Matías Romero Visiting Chair in Mexican Studies.

Pablo de Larrañaga is Professor of Law and Director of the LLM in Administrative Law at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City. His research work includes Mexican public law, constitutional law, regulation, globalization, and economic law. He will teach two courses: a LLILAS graduate seminar, Latin American Market Systems; and a Law School seminar, Mexican Public Law.

Magdalena Villarreal is Senior Researcher and Professor at the Centro de Investigaciones y Estudios Superiores en Antropología Social (CIESAS) Occidente in Guadalajara, Mexico. Her research areas include poverty, indigenous issues, finance, development issues, migration, human rights, social policy, and gender issues. She will teach the graduate seminar Poverty in the Age of Financialization, which will explore finance and society in Latin America.

Guadalupe Gonzalez, Professor in the Division of International Studies at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in Mexico City, is also an Associate Researcher for the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the University of San Diego. Her research work includes Mexico–U.S. relations, Latin American–Mexican relations, comparative foreign policy in Latin America, national security, drug trafficking, and organized crime. She will teach the graduate seminar Public Opinion, Political Culture, and International Relations in Latin America.
