New Tool Maps UT Latin Americanist Graduate Students
Posted: November 19, 2013
The newest addition to the University of Texas at Austin Graduate Latin Americanist Network is the compilation of a Google map of the network. The multidisciplinary networking tool graphically indicates geographical areas of student research and can help connect researchers working on related topics.
On the map, one can zoom in on the geographical area of interest, select an icon, and see the name of the student, his or her email address, topic of research, department, adviser, and additional countries of research. The map’s color-coded icons indicate the various university departments from which Latin American and U.S. Latino research stems. The tool also is expected to be helpful to prospective students looking for advisers in particular departments or areas of research.
The network, initiated by LLILAS in 2012, currently includes over 200 graduate students who share information about student publications and awards, and funding and training opportunities, through an e-mail discussion list and a Facebook group.
