LLILAS Benson Welcomes Two Visiting Professors

LLILAS welcomes its Spring 2014 visiting professors: Celio Bermann, UT-Fulbright Visiting Professor in Environmental Sciences and Policy; and Raquel Padilla Ramos, Lozano Long Visiting Professor.
Dr. Celio Bermann is Vice-Coordinator of the Graduate Program on Energy at the Institute of Energy and Environment and Associate Professor at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He received a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Campinas and teaches courses on environmental energy systems fundamentals, resources and energy supply, and policy analysis of energy and environmental issues. His most recent book is To Have and Have Not Resource Governance in the 21st Century (Berlin: Henrich Böll Foundation, 2008). His graduate seminar this semester focuses on the international context of biofuel production and consumption, and Brazil’s experience in replacing fossil fuels.
Dr. Raquel Padilla Ramos is a Research Professor at the National Institute of Anthropology and History in Sonora, Mexico. She received a PhD in Mesoamerican Studies from the University of Hamburg, Germany. Her extensive work on the deportation of the Yaquis makes Dr. Padilla Ramos a leader in the field of diasporic indigenous studies and a groundbreaking expert on Yaqui culture and history. Her most recent publication is Los irredentos parias: Los yaquis, Madero y Pino Suárez en las elecciones de Yucatán, 1911 (INAH, Mexico D.F., 2011). This semester she is teaching a graduate seminar focusing on Yaqui history and culture.
