Call for Proposals: Beca Anfibia 2014
Posted: March 14, 2014
LLILAS Benson invites University of Texas at Austin graduate students to submit proposals for the Beca Anfibia. The competition pairs a student scholar with a journalist from Latin America for collaboration on a piece for the online magazine Anfibia.
The goal is production of a piece of writing—the crónica—that combines scholarly analysis of a topic provided by the student with the ground-level viewpoint and story-telling perspective of the journalist. The crónica will be published in the online Revista Anfibia, a project of Argentina’s Universidad de San Martín.
Proposals should focus on a specific topic related to the broad research interests of the student, and should be well suited to a narrative (crónica), to be published in late 2014. For a sample, see the crónica published by Jorge Derpic (recipient of the 2013 Beca Anfibia).
Proposals should be approximately 500 words (Times New Roman, double-spaced), submitted in a Word document. Submit via e-mail to Professor Gabriela Polit. Research grants will be awarded by April 15 and can be used starting May 15. The award includes a US$2,500 summer stipend to cover both transportation costs and living expenses. Final narrative must be submitted to Anfibia for publication by September 1.
Proposal deadline: April 1, 2014
The Beca Anfibia is co-sponsored by LLILAS Benson, the Departments of Anthropology and Sociology, and the Lozano Long Chair in Latin American Sociology.
