Posted: December 5, 2006
LLILAS is pleased to welcome its new Assistant Director, Marco Miguel Muñoz-Ruiz, a UT Law School alum and an expert in international law. The Assistant Director position has been created to build collaborative partnerships for LLILAS that will help fulfill its mission and goals.
Marco will work with research and teaching units at UT, both within and outside the College of Liberal Arts, to develop collaborative and academic exchange programs with institutions of higher education, NGOs, governmental agencies, and the private sector in Mexico and other Latin American countries. As Special Counsel to the President of the Universidad Veracruzana in Mexico, he has had extensive experience in developing and implementing international educational projects, including contracts, technology exchange, and educational exchange programs.
In addition to his UT degree, Marco graduated with honors in law from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and completed the Executive Program in Strategic Management of Public Organizations at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. He is also current President of the Board of the Center for Sustainable Development and Productivity, a nonprofit Texas organization, and has worked and traveled extensively throughout the U.S., Mexico, Latin America, and Europe.
An avid cyclist and runner, Marco is currently in training for the 2007 Paris Marathon in April and the Wisconsin Ironman triathlon in September.
On his thoughts about coming to LLILAS and UT, he says, "I chose to do my master's studies at UT because of the excellence of the academic programs that the university was offering and because of its diversity and social commitment. Now, as Assistant Director at LLILAS, I think my experience and expertise in international matters, especially regarding Latin America, can make a useful contribution to the university."
