Public Engagement

LLILAS Benson Public Engagement promotes awareness, knowledge, and understanding of Latin America and U.S. Latinx communities by extending the institute's core activities of education, research, and exchange to the broader community. We believe it is our responsibility to create opportunities for residents of our state—and beyond—to engage in programs and partnerships that promote constructive association with Latin America.

LLILAS Benson seeks to be an agent of change within our community, working with Latino/a and Latin American immigrant populations as well as the teachers, schools, and organizations that serve them. Central to our mission is a desire to improve the well-being of the people of the region, both north and south of the U.S.–Mexico border.

Public Engagement fulfills its mission through K-16 educator training and curriculum development programs; professional development programs with community colleges and minority-serving institutions; cultural events and speaker series geared toward the general public; and collaboration with local organizations supporting Latinxs.
