Hemispheres
Hemispheres, the international outreach consortium at the University of Texas at Austin, utilizes University resources to promote and assist with world studies for K-12 and postsecondary schools, businesses, community groups, and the general public. Hemispheres is coordinated by five independent units that receive funding from multiple sources, including the Title VI International Area Studies Program of the U.S. Department of State:
- Center for European Studies
- Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies
- Center for Middle Eastern Studies
- Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies
- South Asia Institute
Hemispheres develops and distributes classroom-ready resources to interested educators at the K-12 and postsecondary levels; coordinates pre-service and in-service training and resource workshops for K-12 educators; coordinates public events, conferences, and symposia, and participates in public outreach events organized by the University; and consults on appropriate methods for implementing world studies content in school, business, and community initiatives.
In addition to participation in Hemispheres, each center coordinates its own outreach programming, including management of its lending library, speakers' bureau, public lectures, and conferences, all of which are reinforced by collaborative projects geared to an ever-widening audience in the educational community and beyond.
