LLILAS Public Engagement (formerly Outreach) extends the institute's core activities of education, research, and exchange to K–12 and postsecondary schools, businesses, civic and non-profit organizations, and the general public. We believe it is our responsibility to create opportunities for residents of our state—and beyond—to engage in programs and partnerships that promote constructive association with Latin America. As faculty and students generate new research and ideas, Public Engagement is the conduit to share those resources with external audiences who can both benefit from and contribute to an ongoing dialogue about Latin America.
Public Engagement fulfills its mission through educator training and curriculum development programs; speaker series and professional seminars for community and business leaders; collaborations with local organizations that serve Latin America-born and Latino residents of Texas; and the provision of educational materials that facilitate increased understanding of the region in all spheres.
LLILAS is a founding member of Hemispheres, the international outreach consortium at UT Austin that offers educational programming on Western Europe; Latin America; the Middle East; Russia, East Europe, and Eurasia; and South Asia.
