Course Description

This course will provide students with an understanding of the practice of journalism in Latin America, and its progress and constraints in the struggle for the freedom of the press. In addition, the course will cover general information about the region, such as historical, political, economic, cultural, ethnic and even geographical aspects. The emphasis will be on three major cases, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, but there also will be an analysis of the evolution of the current state of journalism in Latin America country by country. Students will frequent various resources in this course. In particular, students will frequent the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas Website for news and information as it is applies to coursework and class lectures throughout the semester. This course website contains valuable information about the structure of the course, a calendar of course activities and lectures for the semester, useful links on Latin America, and direct access to the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas Website that will serve as an important resource for this course. Please check the site often and look for any news or updates in the column on the right throughout the semester.
