Course Description

This course consists of the analysis of transcripts from video interviews of business professionals who are native speakers of Spanish. The video clips deal with a variety of cultural issues that American professionals will encounter when working with Latin Americans. The course is designed for those students who have an interest in Business Culture in Latin America or for those students who are double majors in Business and Spanish. There are over 200 video clips from the interviews. All are accessible from the Internet (URL: and are subdivided into five major categories as follows:

o Professional Activities (13 topics) o Language (5 topics) o Social Situations (10 topics) o Time and Scheduling (6 topics) o Negotiation and Stereotypes (13 topics)

Grading Policy

The final grade is determined by a percentage of points earned for the semester (A=90+, B=80+, C=70+, D=60+): Culture Portfolio 1 x 50 pts = 50 Executive Summaries 5 x 50 pts = 250 Mental Maps 4 x 25 pts = 100 Presentaciñn Oral 1 x 100 pts = 100 Attendance 50 pts - 2 = 50 TOTAL 550 pts
