LAS 381 • MEMORY/SPIRITUAL IN LATINA ART
4:00 PM-7:00 PM
In the past thirty years, Latina artists have created a corpus of work based in memory and spirituality. This seminar will consider the wide variety of artistic strategies these artists have used in addressing these two key issues. Memory and spirituality are framed within the context of the history of the present and the absent. Body, landscape, personal memory, and spirituality are intertwined in the space of cultural memory, which is assembled in a variety of ways, in many instances from competing perspectives. This seminar will work with artists such as Ana Mendieta and Amalia Mesa-Bains among others.
