Course Description

This seminar introduces the student to research on the history of revolutions, those that succeeded and those that failed, in 20th century Latin America. Through the medium of original research, each student will learn about the revolutionary process as well as the sources for its study. He or she will explore the issues of revolutionary history, develop and execute a research project, accomplish research in primary materials, and write a major research paper. Possible topics for research include: revolutionary movements, land and labor reforms, the causes of revolution, pre-revolutionary and post-revolutionary regimes, counterrevolution, and the international repercussions of revolution.

Grading Policy

Essay and proposal, 10% each; research paper, 80%
