Course Description

LAS f322 US Cultural Diplomacy-D C will give students an opportunity to scrutinize and critique an important aspect of the international relations of the US with Latin America: cultural diplomacy as a branch of public diplomacy, for it was in that region that our programs in cultural diplomacy were first instituted. In addition, the class, which will be conducted seminar style, will provide an opportunity for students so interested to examine closely the cultural diplomacy of any of the other American Republics, some of which (Brazil and Mexico) have been particularly active and innovative. In either case, the study can make use of interviews and primary sources of information in the policy-rich context of Washington, DC.
