LAS 381 • GLOBAL MEDIA
9:00 AM-12:00 PM
This course will examine theories of globalization of media and information technologies, in the context of the larger question of whether a global information economy and society are emerging. The course will examine theories of the economics, politics, and cultural issues in globalization, as well as media specific work on television, film, satellite TV and the Internet. Key issues are global media and information companies, global economic integration, global cultural flows and impacts, and the seeming growth of a global digital divide between information haves and have-nots.
