LAS 324L • MAYA MATERIAL CULTURE-BLZ/GUA
Prehistoric Maya Society is divided into several periods of development. These periods are the Preclassic, Classic, and Postclassic. Each period is further divided into early, middle, and late phases. Each period and phase in this course is reviewed in terms of material culture. Material culture is the principal identifying means for segmenting chronological significance. Differences and similarities are reviewed to better understand the developing complex systems and symbols of Maya Civilization. Ceramics, lithics, architecture, etc. are among the material culture studied in identifying Preclassic versus Classic Maya components.
