Course Description

Part of the Study Abroad Progam: Media, Culture, and Portuguese in Salvador , Brazil . This course will focus on the study of media (film, television and music) and culture in Brazil . Particular attention will be given to the structure of media, issues of ethnic representation and participation in popular culture, and the impacts of cultural hybridization in relations with global cultures. One of the largest countries in the world, Brazil 's multicultural society has many similarities with the U.S. , including the power and appeal of its industry worldwide. Brazil 's TV Globo is the fourth largest network after ABC, NBC and CBS. Brazilian soap operas sell internationally, making some actors as famous in China as at home. Brazil 's communication industry produces high volumes of music, television, film and internet content.
