Bryan Roberts Appointed LLILAS Director

Dr. Roberts, C. B. Smith Sr. Centennial Chair in U.S.-Mexico Relations and Professor of Sociology, is also affiliated with UT's Population Research Center. He was previously Director of the Mexican Center of LLILAS. A Ph.D. of the University of Chicago, Dr. Roberts taught at the University of Manchester before coming to UT in 1986. Among numerous publications, he is author of The Making of Citizens (1995), At the Crossroads: Mexico and U.S. Immigration Policy (with Frank Bean, Rodolfo de la Garza, and Sidney Weintraub, 1997), and Ciudania y Politica Social en CentroAmerica (1998).
Regarding his plans for LLILAS, Dr. Roberts says, "I intend to use the next two years to strengthen the governance structure of the institute through an Executive Committee and Advisory Council, and to develop our research and teaching collaboration with Latin America as a whole. I also intend to work with the Latin Americanist community to raise funds for various initiatives, including study abroad grants, visiting and teaching professorships, and resource development."
