Welcome, Bienvenidos, Bem-vindos!

Welcome to the alumni Web page!

You will find little argument that the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS) is the largest and most well respected institute of its kind in the nation. Graduates of LLILAS have a longstanding reputation for being exceptional scholars possessing broad knowledge within their fields, while being active in their communities through civic participation and leadership.

We hope you will take advantage of our redesigned Web pages and will take the time to register in our online community. By doing so, you will be able to update your personal profile, reconnect with your classmates and friends through our alumni directory, and read about the LLILAS-sponsored events that are being planned on and off campus.

Alumni Relations has been working hard to develop programs that unite the LLILAS community. Below you will find links to calendars and listservs, information about job talk panels and mentoring programs, and much more. Please browse the pages and let us know what you think.

Your feedback is always welcome!

LLILAS Alumni Career Services

Job Talk Panels
Job Talk aims to expand communication between the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies Student Association (ILASSA) and the LLILAS alumni. The objective is to learn about career opportunities after LLILAS. The panels are organized in five categories: Careers in Education, Careers in Nonprofits, Government/Legal Affairs, Publishing/Communications Careers, and Cultural Careers. If you are interested in participating in one of the above panels or would like to organize your own job talk, please contact the Alumni Relations Coordinator at pbueche@mal.utexas.edu [pbueche@mail.utexas.edu]

Mentoring Program
The mentoring program is completely new. It has been started with the goal of helping students to benefit from the wisdom of people who have graduated from the LLILAS program. Students who would like to participate in the mentoring program are paired with members of the alumni community who share their interests and have experience in their intended career field. After that, mentors and students determine the course of their own mentoring relationship. Mentors and students can communicate regularly via e-mail or phone calls. Mentors might offer advice, share their experiences, or merely serve as a sounding board for students thinking about various career options.

If you are interested in mentoring please contact the Alumni Relations Coordinator.

LLILAS Strategic Plan

We invite you to read the LLILAS Strategic Plan, “Excellence in Latin American Studies for a 21st Century World: Strategic Plan, 2008-2012” (PDF, 612K).
