Biography

Edwin was born and raised in Guatemala. He completed his undergraduate studies and obtained the degree of Licenciado in archaeology in 2006 (roughly equivalent to both a B.A. and an M.A.) at the University of San Carlos in Guatemala. During that period, he explored several topics in anthropology and archaeology. His research interests focus on the study of Mesoamerican communities and the theoretical and methodological aspects of archaeology. Therefore, they relate to the development of complex societies and the use of art as a tool to manifest religious concepts in public and private pre-Hispanic ceremonial areas. He is currently a first-year M.A. student in the Latin American Studies program at LLILAS, in which he will expand his knowledge. The program will give him the right tools to create a link with other social sciences from which archaeology can benefit, and with which he will be an activist participant in social changes in Guatemala.
