Texas Asia Conference
Moving Beyond Barriers
September 13 - 14, 2019
The Texas Asia Conference at the University of Texas at Austin provides graduate students working on original research projects across disciplines and across traditional academic divisions of Asia the opportunity to present their work. With this year’s conference theme, Moving Beyond Barriers, panels and individual papers will explore various approaches to the terms "movement" and "barriers" as they relate to the study of Asia. Graduate students in all academic disciplines engaged in research on South, Southeast, Central, and East Asia, and their communities in the diaspora will share their research. Their disciplines include but are not limited to anthropology, linguistics, ethnomusicology, film studies, cultural history, art and architectural history, literature, political science, religious studies, sociology, and gender studies.
In addition to an exciting range of panel presentations and a lecture from two keynote speakers, a more casual program of receptions will provide ample time for less structured discussion and exchange, something essential to bringing together the wider community of students and professors. In the past, selected papers delivered at the conference were published in the South Asia Graduate Research Journal (SAGAR). Selected papers will again be published this year.
