THE RAT RACE, 52mins (Director: Miriam Chandy Menacherry, Runtime: 52 mins) Set in Mumbai, home to 14 million people and 84 million rats competing for the same space and resources, The Rat Race is a moving true life account of the city's rat killers, who set out every night armed with a torch and stick to bring back 30 dead rats before day breaks. Using the vehicle of the rat the documentary explores issues of livelihood to paint a moving account of India at the crossroads. It is the rare documentary that got a theatre release in 3 Indian metros and won critical acclaim in India and festivals the world over. At its heart, Timbaktu looks at the relationship that a farmer shares with her land, her seeds and raises critical questions about food, the very essence of human life.
