Overall Seminar Objective: Help FORUM members gain deeper knowledge and appreciation of the diversity

of India through an exploration of its history, religions, language and cultures, foreign relations, and socio-

economic issues.

Overall seminar description: India has been at the cross-roads of numerous major historical events over

the last 5,000 years. This continuous and vigorous interaction with the rest of world influenced India’s own

civilization and also resulted in Indian influence on many countries near and far. Today India again stands

at cross-roads on the world stage as well as its own economic and social development, making choices

and taking new directions. This seminar will explore a few inter-related aspects of Indian people, culture,

society and governance to provide a brief introduction to India and its civilization. The seminar’s 6 lectures

are organized as follows:
