Biography

As a student, Davis worked part-time in the Los Angeles Public Library and in the UCLA Library's Department of Special Collections. Following positions in the libraries of Biola College (now University), La Mirada, California, and the University of California, Berkeley, he served for four years as senior reference librarian and head, Department of Special Collections in the Library of Fresno State College (now California State University, Fresno). He joined the Texas faculty in 1971, teaching courses in professional foundations, book & library history, collection development, and publishing. He has also taught at Fresno, the Department of Librarianship, Birmingham Polytechnic (now University of Central England), Birmingham, England, and Concordia University at Austin.

Since his retirement in 2006, Davis continues to teach a Freshman Seminar, "Great Libraries in History," and to consult with students and other scholars at the University and beyond. He continues to encourage faculty members in higher education–specifically with Graduate & Faculty Ministries (www.intervarsity.org/gfm), Christian Leadership Ministries (www.clm.org), as well as doing some local lay pastoring (www.mission-presbytery.org).
