| SAI Welcome Reception Itty Abraham and Ghulam Farid Nizami South Asia Institute | August 28, 2008 3:30 PM-5:00 PM | Meyerson Conference Room (WCH 4.118) | The South Asia Institute would like to welcome back everyone to the beginning of a new semester. We hope you have had an enjoyable summer and we look forward to the upcoming events planned by the institute. A visiting Fulbright Scholar, Ghulam Farid Nizami, will provide some musical entertainment. Mr. Nizami is considered one of the foremost performing artists of classical sitar in Pakistan. He has performed for all Pakistani heads of state, the foreign diplomatic community and for musical festivals in Pakistan and abroad. Mr. Nizami is also a highly accomplished tabla player and singer. He has received "Outstanding Class" performing artist status with the Pakistan National Council of the Arts and Pakistan Television/Radio. Mr. Nizami is also a well-known instructor of classical music for young students in Pakistan. In addition to classical music, he also performs Pakistani folk music in Punjabi, Saraki and Rajastani languages. Refreshments will be provided. | South Asia Institute |
