The 7th ANNUAL EAST-WEST CENTER INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE STUDENT CONFERENCE ON THE ASIA PACIFIC REGION Honolulu, Hawaii, USA February 14 ˆ 16, 2008 CALL FOR PAPERS Deadline November 1st (Thursday) 2007 Theme The East-West Center International Graduate Student Conference (IGSC) is an annual interdisciplinary conference that welcomes presentations in a number of thematic and disciplinary areas focusing on the Asia Pacific region, and/or the relationship/interaction of the US with the Asia Pacific region. For the purposes of the conference, Asia Pacific is defined to include: South Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, all the Pacific Rim nations and Pacific Islands, and Russia. Abstracts The East-West Center invites graduate students from all around the world to submit papers for the 7th Annual International Graduate Student Conference, taking place in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA on February 14-16, 2008. The Conference will provide an opportunity to share perspectives formally (through presenting their papers and attending other panel presentations) and informally in the warm and encouraging environment of the East-West Center in Hawaii. Abstracts (up to a maximum of 500 words in length) of proposed papers or posters are invited from intending participants at this time. Papers are encouraged from the array of disciplines focusing on the region. Fields represented in past conferences include Politics, Governance, and Security; Economics; Environmental Change and Vulnerability; Population and Health; Education, History, Language, Linguistics, Culture and Arts. A set of sample abstracts from previous conference may be perused here . Submission Format Please complete the following submission form: abstract form and submit it electronically to the conference address: studentconference@eastwestcenter.org . Please submit the form in the original MS-Word format, not in PDF or other formats. Also, when you submit, put "abstract submission - your last name" in the e-mail subject. At this moment, only the abstract is needed, not the complete paper. If your abstract is selected for presentation, you may submit the actual paper to be considered for the EWC working paper series (see Post Conference Publication below). Eligibility

Only students who currently are enrolled in a graduate program may submit an abstract. We are sorry that we are not able to make exceptions for undergraduate students or recent graduates.

Each individual may submit up to two abstracts. Other information A very small number of travel grants available from the East-West Center would be provided on a meritorious basis. However, potential participants are encouraged to apply for travel assistance from their home institutions or other sources available to them due to the limited nature of this provision. Should you decide to apply for the travel grant, please complete the travel grant section on the abstract submission form.

Housing accommodation at the East-West Center Halls of Residence will be made available for conference participants at a special rate. Post-conference Publications Presenters will also have the opportunity to submit their conference papers to be considered for publication in the in the East-West Center's working paper series. Our editorial board will review all papers, and selected papers will be published after the conference. The deadline for the complete paper submission will be announced later.
