Sequoia Maner is a graduate student in the Department of English at the University of Texas at Austin. After completing her B.A. in English at Duke University, then working in social media in Los Angeles, Sequoia moved to Austin to follow her passion: the study of contemporary African American poetry and hip-hop aesthetics. Her interests include the performance of black masculinity, the manipulation and close-reading of black sound, and methodological approaches to hip-hop scholarship.
Sheela Jane Menon
Sheela Jane Menon is a graduate student in the Department of English at the University of Texas at Austin. Originally from Malaysia, Sheela Jane completed a B.A. in English (Highest Honors) and a B.A. in Religion at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. She earned her M.A. in English from UT Austin in 2013. Her interests center around Malaysian and Southeast Asian literature, with a particular focus on issues of gender, race, and national identity.
