Texas 4000, Texas 4000 Internship, Application Deadline, BTT Gateway Job ID 7307
Fri, September 27, 2013
Texas 4000 is a small Austin based non-profit dedicated to fighting cancer by spreading Hope, Knowledge, and Charity. Each year a group of University of Texas students raise money in this fight by riding their bikes from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska. During the ride, they stop to share their inspirational stories along with powerful life-saving information about cancer prevention to towns big and small. Texas 4000 is not only comprised of these students, but the countless individuals who support this cause, such as the board of directors, sponsors, host families, donors, and volunteers.
We are currently looking for passionate and eager individuals to contribute to an amazing cause. These four volunteer internship opportunities will directly support Texas 4000 programs, activities, projects, and administrative tasks.
No matter what position you apply for, we ask that you exhibit some of the following traits:
• Ability to learn quickly and apply common sense to detailed, straightforward instructions
• Excellent organization, communication, writing, and problem solving skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Ability to multi-task and handle multiple projects while staying organized
• Ability to work well with our team of volunteers, riders, or on one’s own
10-20 hours/week minimum desired. Internships will span from September 2nd through December 6th, 2013.
This position entails working with all different facets of media we encounter including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and the Texas 4000 webpage. The Social Media intern will assist in the crafting and monitoring of content to be shared via social media.
Donor Management and Stewardship
The Donor Management and Stewardship intern will be responsible for working with our database, which tracks all incoming donations. Tasks include data management in our Blackbaud system, preparing tax receipts, and maintaining positive relationships with Texas 4000 donors and sponsors. Proficiency or desire to learn MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, and Blackbaud encouraged.
The Organizational Support intern will assist in the execution of any daily tasks around the office, including, but not limited to, answering telephones and taking messages, processing outgoing mail, operating office machines, filing, and working with our database system. This position is perfect for someone looking for a first internship to gain experience in the non-profit world.
The Design intern will be tasked with creating eye-catching and innovative media such as posters, flyers, and banners to be distributed to news outlets and throughout the community. Adobe Photoshop or a photo editing software proficiency required.
Special Events – Atlas
This position requires direct effort and focus on one main goal and future event. ATLAS is a sendoff for Texas 4000’s riders in June, and allows Texas 4000 to reach out to the Austin area in much greater numbers. This position demands management and event coordination skills and extreme attention to detail. Duties include organizing volunteers to help, gathering supplies and donations, managing sponsor relations, and event promotions.
