Breakthrough Collaborative, Teacher Intern, Application Deadline, BTT Gateway ID 6743
Tue, February 25, 2014
Breakthrough Collaborative has over 30 years of successful experience preparing low-income, motivated middle-schools students from across the country to enter and succeed in college-preparatory high-school programs by recruiting, training and supporting outstanding college and high-school students to teach them.
Breakthrough students dream of college but attend under-resourced schools. With the promise of energetic young teachers, they complete rigorous applications to Breakthrough where they dedicate their summer vacations to hard work in pursuit of their academic goals. 90% of our students are of color and most will be the first in their families to graduate from four-year colleges. During our 6-week intensive summer program, Breakthrough students participate in literature, math, writing, and science classes, complete an average of two hours of homework each night, and enjoy daily enrichment activities. Nearly three-quarters of Breakthrough students enter two- and four-year colleges, three times the rate of their peers.
Breakthrough recruits and trains equally outstanding college and high-school students to teach. Under the guidance of experienced educators, Breakthrough teachers plan and teach academic classes and enrichment courses, advise students, lead field trips, and develop as teachers and leaders. Our teaching internship is among the most rigorous in the country and provides intensive training on instruction, assessment, student engagement, and classroom management. Nearly three-quarters of Breakthrough teachers enter the teaching field.
