    My first position out of college was with a medical software company as a Project Manager. I have a working knowledge of the Electronic Medical Record as a function of patient care. My next position was with an arbitration and mediation firm as a Case Manager. I have direct experience with alternative dispute resolution and case administration. I received certification in the Center for Dispute Settlement mediation training course ”Mediation for the Professional”. My additional areas of interest involve Education Policy and the impact of race, class, community, and cultural experience when considering factors influencing the current state of our public education system.

    Education and training:
    I received my BA from the University of Wisconsin in Legal Studies and Sociology with a concentration in Chicana Studies and Women Studies. I am currently working toward my MA/PhD in American Studies at the University of Texas at Austin.

    If I could pick any career, other than the job I'm currently doing it would be:
    I would love to teach elementary or secondary education; community organizer for underrepresented, underprivileged, or at-risk youth.

    Best piece of career advice?
    Success should not be measured monetarily. Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.

    Follow what your heart dictates, and don’t be dissuaded by what other people may say. When confronted with a brick wall, realize that it’s there to frustrate the others. Persevere. Persevere. Persevere.

    Step outside your comfort zone to better understand the world and who you are. Working in a forest in Wyoming, teaching at an inner-city school in New York, or interning at a public health clinic in Tanzania will help you fine tune your adaptability, problem-solving, coping, and interpersonal skills - all strengths in high demand by employers.

    Dinners with friends and planning my next trip. If I can travel three times a year I'm a very happy man.[close]

    - I know my resumé doesn't make much sense but I can assure you neither does my life
    - So what you are telling me is that if I get one of my fingers cut off by that big machine over there, I would be able to stay home and still receive my pay checks?
