Credit Options for Internships

Liberal Arts Career Services offers Liberal Arts students three options to earn credit for an internship: Liberal Arts 310, 310wb & 110wb. Credit is only granted for internships taken concurrently with the semester in which the student is enrolled.

Purpose of LA Internship Courses

The purpose of these undergraduate courses is to establish the academic foundations of the Liberal Arts students’ internship. Students will integrate knowledge derived from their academic studies with the experiences gained from real-world work settings. The internship presents an opportunity for academic and professional growth. This class will support these work experiences by fostering analytical, interpersonal, and communications skills.

Course Requirements

General Pre-requisites: The Liberal Arts internship courses are open to all College of Liberal Arts students, regardless of major. Students must have a 2.5 or higher GPA, at least sophomore status (31+ hours) by the start of the course and must be registered with LiberalArts@Work. Students are NOT required to have an internship secured at the time of course registration, however the internship MUST be secured by the first class day of the semester in which the student is enrolled.

Student Agreement: Students enrolled in a Liberal Arts internship course are required to adhere to all personnel rules, regulations, and other standard requirements of the host organization and to complete the internship as agreed, meeting the required hours, start and end date and all assignment deadlines.

Internship Eligibility Requirements

Internship eligibility is reviewed on a case by case basis, however following are general requirements. The internship must (1) provide direct and daily supervision and guidance; (2) provide regular access to the supervisor; (3) assign meaningful projects; and (4) provide a professional, established working environment with a strong learning component. The internship may be paid or unpaid, both are acceptable.

Credit Hours

This course is offered for academic credit, which counts toward your overall GPA (as a letter grade) and fulfills any lower division elective credit requirements. Credit is granted on a letter-base only, credit is not available on a pass/fail basis. Credit is only granted for internships taken in the semester in which the student is enrolled (no retro-credit).
