"Major in the Workplace" Classes
The "Major in the Workplace" courses are offered each fall and spring semester to juniors and seniors pursuing any liberal arts major. On some occasions they are generic courses open to any major; other times they are designated for specific majors, such as "The English Major in the Workplace" or "The Economics Major in the Workplace."
These 1-credit courses consist of 7 2-hour classes which cover the basic information you need to connect your liberal arts major to whatever you want to do after graduation.
The primary goals of the course are to help you understand and articulate the value of your liberal arts education, and enhance your ability to apply it to your future plans. When the course is completed you will have:
- Learned how chaos theory can help you make sense of your job search
- Created a Wandering Map
- Identified key mindsets and analyzed your major for its value in the workplace
- Identified your Possible Lives
- Created a personal career action plan
- Learned how to conduct experiments which can lead to jobs
- Created powerful stories for interviews and job fairs
- Written a resume, cover letter and/or essay for graduate/law school
